All contractors that work performing construction renovation or new construction in Maryland are required to have a MHIC Contractor’s License (Maryland Business License). If you are paid to complete construction work on property that is owned by another person, you are required to have a Maryland Home Improvement contractor License (MHIC).

MHIC Contractor's Licensen Process

You will need to renew your license every two years.

Take a class regarding the home improvement law in the state of Maryland, these classes were designed so you can obtain the required knowledge about the home improvement commission, the guarantee funds and specific topics for the development of your job as a licensed contractor.

The class has a length of 12 hours and we offer it on-line or at our offices.

  • Step 2
Take a test to demonstrate your knowledge about the home improvement law, this exam is openbook and you may test it in English or spanish, we will coordinate your exam depending on the day, time and location according to your availability.
  • Step 3
Once you have passed the exam, you are required to gather some documents, we will guide you in this process as well.
